1)    Makes them much more engaged/accountable for what is going on in their accounts. They were always accountable, but there is no excuse now for not catching and fixing a mistake or for not realizing that you were over budget.

2)    Given this increased visibility the managers are very engaged, with most logging into the FinBoard daily. Martin S. in Engineering keeps it open at all times! Greater involvement from the managers provides us with much greater internal controls as the managers can spot miscoding immediately. It is now not only up to Finance to catch mistakes.

 Outside of those benefits, the FinBoard has saved the Finance department approximately 5-10 hours per month in financial reporting. As the reports are live, we no longer need to prepare and email out financial reports but rather just send a quick email to say that the month has been finalized. This not only cuts down on preparation time but also increases the quality of the information and prevents version control issues.

 The other great benefit would be the ease in which financial reports can be generated and distributed. The financial structure of using groups in financial reports allows for easy updating to multiple reports when changes are necessary. It is also very easy to generate and distribute custom reports to users. For example, if we want a financial report of all our scrap accounts it can be done in a matter of minutes and access can be given to only those users that are authorized.

 The GL/trial balance audits are also great in determining if you have any accounts that have been added to the GL but not included in the statements. The AP and cash analysis modules are also very powerful for boiling up information quickly.

 In short, the FinBoard has been transformational for Viking. I use it every day and so do our managers. It has really made financial information timely and useful in our organization.
